The First Workshop on Research, Development and Education on Unmanned Aerial Systems (RED-UAS 2011) will be open to all interested people in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and its applications, and is intended to be a forum where discuss ideas and review works related to the area. Exhibitions and demonstrations of UAS and related equipment are included in the workshop.

A workshop on UAS will be coorganised by the European Commission and the European Defence Agency. This workshop is the fifth and last in a series of five workshops run by the European Commission (DG Enterprise and DG MOVE) of the Unmanned Aerial Systems Panel Process, aiming at preparing a Strategy for UAS in Europe. The workshop will map current UAS research priorities, identify technology gaps, map innovation investment schemes including demonstrator programmes and discuss EU-level coordination. The workshop will build upon the outcomes of the four preceding workshops and make the connection with their respective themes: UAS industry and market, safety, insertion into airspace, and UAS’ societal dimension.
